Featured Replies

hi there im a new member from today

so i have a skoda fabia vrs 2007 limited edition, about 4 months ago my car wouldnt start so quick read on the internet i found it could be the starter motor and it was, it turn out to be the plug had been bodged, so went to skoda and they said you would have to buy a full wireing loom for that plug (£550) so i turned round walked out, left it as it was till i could get one from ebay about 1 month later in the rain all my light started going of flashing beeping, pulled up home turned engine of then on it started but no power steering to go with it :(.

so then i left it from about 6 on the night till 6 in the morning and started car up all was up and running again but then everytime it rains it happens,(wiring loom will be fixed by friday as i found a plug), i couldnt bleave that this plug could be the course of all the trouble so carried on reading on internet and 1 guy said the suffer from wiring loom getting soaked on passanger side chassie leg, ive had it all out the battery the lot it was soaked, dryed it all out and mad it no better, i am gonna fix the starter plug but dont think this will help only say that i read with simlier problems and they didnt say nothink about starter plug being broke to start with

im at a loose end with a fix if anyone can shed light will appricate it

cheers scott

its more than likely damaged all the loom if it was proper soaked, it might not just be the bad weather though, the rear washer connector also runs down the passenger side chassis leg. If you have the know-how i would start checking individual wiring and then replacing it because the most likely cause is the fact that the wiring is green in places! Also yeah the start motor plug wiring is too short, so you need to re pin it and put a bit of extra wiring in there so avoid it coming under strain and breakin connection again (i found this out whilst in birmingham a long way from home for me lol)

I hope this helps, but in all honesty you kind of answered your own question.

cheers SamtVRS for the reply, i know i have but just wanted to get it out there just to get one reply helps me out, i have the know how todo it with my dad, looks like i got alot ahead of me, how come this happens is it just one of the unlucky ones or is it a common problem, also if you can answer is there any speacial loom tape to use as im gonna start stripping the loom but its always when its wet ill wet part of the loom from bulk head down to the chassie leg as im sure its there, hopefully i get there in the end.

cheers again and if you can answer on the loom tape whats best to replace would appreicate it

regards scott

Im unsure if its common with the loom issue, but if its been really wet theres a good chance the wiring COULD be ball bagged because of the water ingress, but the starter motor connector issue ive been told it was quite common at one time, but obviously you dont know until it happens if your car has that issue!

just use electrical tape you wont need anything special but try and use a different colour to black so if you do sell the car and another issue occurs, the next person working on it knows its been played with and if the faults related they know to have a look there.
