Sticky wheels

Featured Replies

Well just thought I'd bring this up :) decided after all the salt and rain we've had recently take wheels off and copper grease them, so started to remove the fronts and was a little tight so sanded the rust off and put some grease on, wheel and hub and on the thread of the bolts however the rears where another matter a mallet had to be used no joy, so removed put the bolts back just holding on and dropped the car then clunk it left its grip go and I removed the wheels, sanded the rusty are and copper greased the lot same on the rear on opposite side, I thought vw dealer would ave done this on service. ? Skoda did and charged me £70 for the privilege but was done , so if you haven't greased up yet get it done before its welded together

Being doing that for years, what a hassle it saves. It is a good idea to mention it on here every so often as a lot of people don't know about copper slipping the wheels and bolts. there are a few who believe putting the copper slip on the bolts will cause them to hydraulic, as long as you don't go and put loads on and just a small coating over the threads all will be good.

Hydraulic? I dipped them in and screwed them back

Have the same problem with mine. Fronts perfectly easy to remove, rears.... :wall:

I must have spent a good 10 mins wiggling the passenger side rear to slowly work it off the rust the last time I swapped my wheels over. This time I made sure I removed all the rust and put a good amount of grease on both the hub and inner wheel section so hopefully will be much easier next time.

What I've also noticed is the rear hubs are covered, but the front ones aren't? These are really rusty inside and out but are easy to remove

Yes me too the hubs covered in rear and not front , I just lobbed loads of copper grease in to the hub so hopefully this will stop the rust , its all this grit and rain
