Engine light on

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, I know the answer will be VAG-COM it, but don't have access ATM and being bank holiday all the local garages are shut and we have plans... which mean using the car...

Is a mk1 Octy VRS 54 plate,,,

Went to start it this morning, started fine but sat at about 500 and didn't want to rev, foot on the floor, nothing... Shut down, restarted, same... shut down, left 10 secs restarted, ran fine and revved OK...

About 20 miles on the Check Engine light came on (yellow engine block)... car ran fine, pulled ok, no flat spots. Went to zoo with kids left 4-5 hrs. Started OK, light still on. Ran slightly flat as pulled away but then was fine... On way home ran it up from 1500-5000 and pulled strongly...

Does this give any pointers as to what it could be? Only thing I can think has changed is that the last tank of gas was Tesco "99Ron-Super plus" as opposed to the usual regular unleaded

Any ideas or locals with VAG COM? Don't want to drive it without knowing what the fault is and we're due to take the kids to the Grandparents on Sunday for Easter and don't want to let them down...

Other issues with it are the usual drivers door microswitch and indicator relay clicking which I was going to sort when it's not below freezing outside...

the "Y" breather pipe put that light on in my VRS,.... increased fuel consumption amongst other things were the result of the split breather pipe ... have you checked that at all??

Ive got a fault Code reader here, would suggest you could borrow it but your no where near me :(

Managed to get it VAG COM today, turns out it was intermittent fault on temp sender to the right of the block, caused by a lose fitting plug, will replace the green sender with a VAG one anyway, just in case this is a pattern part... Also discovered a good size rip in the Y shaped breather tube. So that'll need replacement too.

Otherwise doing a live test engine was almost bang on where it should be in terms of boost etc when being driven.

So anyone got the part numbers for these two bits. In regards the pipe do I stay VAG or go for updated silicon hose?

ive got silicon hoses but not fitted them yet . . . and a skoda replacement temp sender. . . had to fit a skoda Y pipe as a matter of urgency when the original split ..
