Electric Window winder problems - can't lock car now?

Featured Replies

Hi - got a 55 plate 2.0TDi Sport. During the week, the driver's side electric window started to make a grinding noise when operating the switch. Stripped the door panel off today and when i took the motor off, i could see a frayed cable which was dislodged and fouling the winding. Then i drilled out all the rivets that mount the inner skin to the door (lots of fun..NOT), including the ones which mount the regulator to the back of it. One cable was badly frayed and the other snapped.

I've tracked down a replacement part from ECP at £47ish and will pick it up tomorrow. Rather than put it all back together for a short period, i've wedged the window up and i'm driving it 'as normal' - however, there is an airbag light on now on the dash, as well as the 'door open' warning light. I also cant use the central locking and the key only seems to lock the driver's door - is this normal, given i havent re-assembled everything, or have i inadvertently broken something?

Thanks

Kev.

There is a crash senser on the metal panel you drilled off,= air bag light on if disconnected.and the window motor is the door control ecu for the locking etc,SKODA WULLIE

Many thanks mate. I'll reconnect the window motor and hopefully be able to at least lock it. Not too bothered about airbag light.

ECP tried to give me the wrong part today. Website shows the regulator mounted on the metal panel, they tried to give me a regulator with a different cable setup and assembly.

Back to square one....

I've now ordered what Euro Car Parts assure me is the correct part (492 780 261) which is a 'Wahr' window regulator assembled onto the panel that needs to be riveted onto the door. Is there any special trick to fitting he glass to the regulator?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Managed to fit the new panel yesterday - not an easy job without a friend or two to hold the glass and assist with locating the plastic pins into the regulator slots - and now the airbag light stays on all the time, despite me reconnecting the crash sensor and cabling behind the panel.

Does this need to be reset for the fault to clear?

usually

Just need somebody with VCDS to clear it all for you and see that it stays off.

Thanks folks.

My window dropped the other day, will that mean a knackered regulator?

My airbag light comes on often, its the yellow socket in the hole in the floor underneath the passenger seat, bad connection. I have a code reader and clear the DTC. If the light comes on again, I "shoogle" the wire and try again. Getting around to a permanent fix. So just incase it's not the door sensor!

Also, the light will stay on until its turned off, whether its fixed or not.

Window dropping is probably a knackered regulator, if the wires have broken, when using the window control it should make a grinding noise as the wires are just going round and round. If the controls do nothing, its the motor/electrical. Think its about £50ish for a new regulator. Also, like Kev, I got one from Euro and it was different ie not part of the panel. Works fine but is quite slow...?
