Octy vRS Hatch - Boot "struts"

Featured Replies

Reading the "Dog Guard" thread has reminded me of a question I've had since I first got a close look at a vRS Hatch - namely the two "struts" (for lack of a better word - someone else called them "backrests"?) that were fitted just behind the seats between the sides of the bootspace and the boot floor. I take it that these struts are common, and not an aftermarket fit to that particular car?

I assume that they're there to stiffen up the rear of the car, but does anyone find them intrusive, when it comes to dropping the back seats to carry large loads? Are they removable, and is it advisable (or not advisable) to do so? Is it possible to buy aftermarket replacements that aren't so intrusive (e.g. curved or otherwise less space-consuming)?

Any thoughts?

Nice Guy Mike

leave em, stiffens up the rear end, i'd love a stiffer rear end :o
