Anybody want my stereo

Featured Replies

I know it's very unlikely but does anyone want my old stereo before I throw it away? The tape doesn't work and the only bit that illuminates is the on/off button. But it does have Skoda written on it and the words 'high power' just underneath which always amused me (it dosn't take much). It apparently can be attatched to CD player though I don't know how, but it says so on the front.

I don't think our cars have quite reached the classic stage yet but if anyone is going for originality they might want it as it is slightly higher spec than the one in our old LXi (or it would be if it all worked). Like I say, I know it's unlikely but I thought I'd ask before I chuck it.

I'll take it. I can collect later in the month if you're in Southampton (can't see location on phone).

Hi guys, well I wasn't expecting two replies (I wasn't expecting any!). I don't know what to do now. Who do I offer it to? Yes Norman, I am in Southampton. I assume you're not going to come all this way just to pick a stereo up. If you turn up in one of your Skodas you're welcome to pop in for a cup of tea.

On the other hand I am doing a Triumph event that starts in Soham, Cambridgeshire next Saturday (13 th) so I could drop it off to 6677. Perhaps you two should work it out between you!

As I say the tape bit doesn't work and the main display doesn't illuminate which makes it hard to use at night but that may be easily sorted. But I don't want anything for it obviously.

Cheers guys.

soham is 28.9 miles away from me according to my phone. I'm basically on a farm just outside of st.neots. My car is going into the garage tomorrow to sort its starter motor out, no idea how long its going to be out of action until they've looked over it (possibly not going to be until thursday that they get to see it). Should be running by the 13th. I might be able to do a meet part way or something.

If its easier travel then skodanorman can have it. 2 Southampton guys can probably arrange a swap more easily than me over here.

OK, we'll see what Skodanorman says. He may specifically want a Skoda branded stereo for one of his collection (he seems to have a fleet of Skoda's) whereas I get the impression you just want one to fill a hole! I'll keep you informed. By the way did you see my other post about your starter problems? Might be an idea to have a quick look to see if there is a loose wire hanging around somewhere near the starter motor that is supposed to be attatched to the solenoid. You might save yourself the expense of a trip to the garage. Good luck!

Its been to the garage and they said they are aware of the wiring fault on the felicias having fixed a few before when I checked it in. I dropped it off this morning although its not due to be inspected properly until tomorrow. They did ring me earlier though with bad news, the guy had a look at it very quickly today, couldnt find the source of the fault at all, certainly not loose connectors. They are apparently going to start taking the tools to it tomorrow and testing each part individually until they can find what is at fault.

But yeah, I have the stock radio that came with my car. Its just I swear it is possessed. I have heard that there is the possibility of an electrical short on one of the leads internally but either way, it turns itself on frequently. Leaving it in the slot just drains my battery but it does physically work. Norman should rightfully get first dibs on it.

I Have ordered a cd tape adapter for 3 quid off ebay, it slots in the tape and lets you play an external music device like an ipod via the earphone jack.

Relation to this thread is?

For some reason Felicia stereos seem to be wired on the live side of the ignition so that they work without having to have the key in (or at least both of mine have). I actually prefer this, it's handy if you're just sitting in the car waiting for someone or when your working on the car you can have the radio on without having the key in. This seems unusual on modern cars (I know the Felly isn't that modern but it still is to me) where you normally have to have the key on the first position though in your case this would be preferable as it could only turn itself on when you were in it.

Regarding miggymooses comment, one of those things wont work on this stereo because the tape doesn't work, but it does have provision for an external CD player.

Good luck with starter problem, I'll keep you posted.

If you wanted the stereo to turn on and off with the ignition its just a case of swapping a wire on the back of the coil.

I should say I only said I'd take it to save it being thrown out. If someone else wants it to actually use it I'd rather they had it.

Can't see usernames but happy for the other chap to have it. Pleased it'll see use again.

Cheers.
