dealer or indy speciallist service?

Featured Replies

I have never had any car serviced in my life. never bothered and just done what I can to keep it going until it dies. my new current car is a bit more special and I now rely on it for work.

I need a 120k service soon. I could go somewhere and they could tell me it is £20 or £200 and I wouldn't know.

what is a fair price? what would I expect to have done? main dealer or other? I was buying oil in a car parts place and didn't know what to get. the guy behind me happened to own a local garage called wagenworx who are vag speciallists. I was really impressed at his knowledge, advice and the fact he even bothered to help me and went out of his way to do so.

I would like to go there as he clearly knows his stuff and I appreciated his help. any disadvantages going non dealer? well out of any warranties at 120k miles on a 56 plate. also dealer is a bit of a drive from me and I would prefer to keep business local

I'd say that as the car has done a few miles and is well out of warantee, there really is no point in paying main dealer prices. As a buyer, I wouldn't pay over the odds for a full Skoda service history - as long as it had been serviced regularly I'd be happy.

I use an indy here in Gloucester and am much happier using them than the main dealer locally. Not only is it considerably cheaper but you also get much better customer service. They know me and my car now and fall over themselves to be helpful. The receptionist knows her stuff and if you have a question she can't answer, you can speak to one of the mechanics who will work on your car. Their knowledge is superb and all seem to care about what they do. I guess they have to - they know customers don't feel like they have to come back (unlike main dealers).
