iPad question

Featured Replies

Hi all, following on from my which laptop thread, I'm still torn between laptop or iPad, the question is: How does the iPad cope with streaming of live sports from sites like firstrow etc? Also sopcast?

Not sure on those specific sites. But if they are flash based (suspect they) then it won't work.

Need to either have an app or be HTML5 based to work with iPad.

Less and less sites now are using flash as they are opting for the superior HTML5 method, so it's less of an issue now that it was a few years ago.

As far as streaming, it depends on you connection speed.

iPad is MUCH smaller & lighter than a laptop, and there is just ONE drawback..........and that is that you can't load your own software onto it like you can with a laptop.

Downloads are from iTunes ONLY, unless it's jailbroken.

We bought an Ipad two years ago after having some problems with my father in law's health in Portugal. Smart phones are a pain to book flights, email insurers and doctors. On return I researched notepads & we set out to buy one -and bought an iPad 2.

I don't consider it a computer -I'm writing a book but even with a Bluetooth keyboard I won't use it. For shopping, BBC iplayer, forums & email it's brill. I have all my car handbooks and manuals on it and use it everyday.

Huw

PS the camera is pants IMO

Thanks guys, think I'll go for another laptop, don't see the point in paying more for something that probably won't do what I want.

Try a nexus Or Samsung galaxy tab. Both around £200,and no app loading limitations of the ipad.

I have an ipad 2 and normal laptop. If im after a quick search or read of something i will use the ipad.

However, i usually use the laptop for most tasks of more than a few minutes.

Ipad is great for relieving boredom at work though

sopcast won't work on a iPad thats for sure.

While I love our iPad Mini its no replacement for a laptop. IMO no tablet is. I would always go for a laptop first and then a tablet to back it up for those short periods away etc.

Nice one, been using Android phones for a few years now and think that Android is great, so one of those tablets may be an option, I think i'm going to have to get my ar$e out to the shops and have a play with a couple before I decide.

Check out hotukdeals for any good offers. The galaxy tab 10 was posted recently for £200 if you want ipad size.
