Air Con Service :/

Featured Replies

Just seen a leaflet come through my door from the local dealer.

Claiming my "air con is a annaul service"

Now i pretty sure this wasnt part of the service scedule, and if it was surely thats one of the things they would check and look at on a bigger service.

Your thoughts?

Can't see why it'd need servicing, the only thing they could check is whether there are any defects in the A/C system and maybe re-gas it, wouldn't worry about it tbh probably trying to get money out of you.

I don't think they ever touch the air on on normal main servicing. I was offered it as an extra for roughly £60 when mine was in for its 2nd service. Didn't bother tho.

they let off one of the aircon deoderises / anti bacterial things in the car and do a visual inspection / pressure check I think

do it yourself and save the money, check if the cost of a proper regas is included, as technically they are ment to drain the system and refill with correct amount of oil and refrigerant

they are not ment to top up as they do not know how much oil and refrigerant are in the system so do not know how much to add

I had mine done on my last Fabia. It cost me £59 on the 3rd year service. They regased, inspected, did the anti bacterial thingy, and put an ultra violet dye in the system to help trace leaks. It worked fine and I never thought anymore about it. It doesn't need doing each year though.

Frankly, in the UK - you should check your A/C more often specially to get rid of the fungis etc. which can be more likely to grow in the a/c installation.

Usually - every two years, you should also check the gas level, which also has special oil in it to keep everything work properly.

What's special about the uk? Are we more prone to suffering from fungus? Lol!

If I still have the car at the 3 year service stage I'd get it done then I reckon. Main thing is to switch it on for a blast every now and then especially through winter when it may not get used as much.

Usually its advisable to service the system every two years. There is an acceptable loss of gas from the system so does it good to vac out and regas.

It just because the humidity. If you see along the cars owned near the cost - most of them has green seaweed under the window seals etc. Good advice is to use it often.
