Skoda OHC engine

Featured Replies

This is from the Skoda Felicia wikipedia entry:

For Felicia Škoda made its own 75 kilowatts (102 PS; 101 bhp) aluminium 1.6 OHC engine, which appeared in some racing Favorit prototypes, but Volkswagen decided to put its old 1.6MPI 55kilowatts (75 PS; 74 bhp)

Does anyone know anything about this?

Yes, it's true. I think they have a Favorit Estate in the Skoda museum with the Skoda 1.6 in it.

And since that fateful day, Skoda was VAGs biatch. :giggle:

The engine in your new Rapid is also a Skoda engine :) It was a condition of VAGs takeover that Skoda would still design and build engines.

I had heard rumours that was the case, but I thought the last remnant/trace of an actual Skoda engine in a Skoda was the early 1.4 Fabia engine.

You live and learn....

I actually quite like the 1.6 mpi unit. A little short on power but performs well enough, reliable, relatively easy to work on & if driven sensibly returns a pretty respectable mpg. ;)

I had a 1.6 Felicia, it was VERY punchy! Only 75BHP but good low down torque made it quite fun.

Yeah, the 1.4MPI in the Fabia was a development of the old 1.3 engine seen in rear wheel drive Skodas and then the Favorit and Felicia! 1.2HTP engine and the the 1.2TSIs to date were designed and built by Skoda, the latest series 1.2TSI and 1.4TSI are built by Skoda but are generic "group" engines I believe.

I manage 36-38MPG. Quoted as 40MPG combined, so I think 17 years down the line, me and her do alright, haha. It also sounds beaut when you give it some revs. Grrrr, you feisty little Skoda you

For sure, but being 8v & 75 bhp you do have to climb the rev range to deliver that torque & that's something I don't tend to do as in my case she deserves to ease her way into retirement. Hopefully not just yet though!! :smirk:;)
