Stereo speaker wiring

Featured Replies

Hi,

In the middle of installing my new (Chinese) GPS headunit and struggling to find the space for all the cables at the rear.

I had a "bright" idea and decidied to swap the original power/speaker plug for an ISO connector. I got all of the speaker wires out but none of the power ones would come out so I've scrapped the idea. Stupidly, I forgot to take a record of the location of the speaker wires in the brown connector.

Information on the web is sketchy and lacking, so can anybody give me the official speaker wire designation in these cars including wire colours & pin locations?

In pairs there is:

Red/green & Brown/green

Red & Brown/red

Blue & Brown/blue

Blue/white & Brown/white

Thanks in advance.

Red/green & Brown/green = Pin 4 & Pin 8

Red & Brown/red = Pin 2 & Pin 6

Blue & Brown/blue = Pin 1 & Pin 5

Blue/white & Brown/white = Pin 3 & Pin 7

Thanks Eddie. Can you tell me which pair relates to which speaker?

D'oh!

For the benefit of others then, in ISO terms:

Blue (1) & Brown/blue (5) = RR +/- = Purple (1) & Purple/black (2)

Red (2) & Brown/red (6) = RF +/- = Grey (3) & Grey/black (4)

Blue/white (3) & Brown/white (7) = LF +/- = White (5) & White/black (6)

Red/green (4) & Brown/green (8) = LR +/- = Green (7) & Green/black (8)

Now I have to swap 3 out of 4 channels over in the car harness and find space for all these cables behind the new HU... :wall:

Cheers!

Just a rule of thumb for anyone, if you have any speakers in any car and are unsure of the wiring or speaker determination, place one of each of the pair of wires on either terminal of a 9v battery. It'll be enough to make the speaker cone move with a click/pop but not enought voltage to do any damage.

Just listen for which speaker makes a noise and hey presto. :)
