2005 Skoda Fabia 1.4 air con problems

Featured Replies

my 2005 Skoda Fabia 1.4 has been regased but the ac does not deliver cold air.

All the switches light up, there is power to the compressor solenoid and pressure sensor, and all the fuses are ok. only fault recorded on code reader is PO118 engine coolant temp sensor.

After a run the ac outlet pipe to condenser is not hot. when ac switch is engaged with revs at 2000 rpm the speed increases to 2200 rpm. turning off ac switch revs drop again to 2000 rpm.

The engine was replaced when the old one snapped the cam belt by the previous owner. Since I bought it the air con did not work , so i had it regassed - with no effect. Does the engine need to be recoded to the ECU ? I am replacing the engine coolant temp sensor today and will try it again.

Any help appreciated !

I replaced the engine coolant temp sensor and cleared codes. No improvement. When both the compressor variable solenoid switch and pressure sensor connectors were removed and engine run on ac - both recorded fault codes. I cleared these and returned the car to the garage who sold it to me and they re gased it again. Still no improvement air con pipe from compressor to condenser still not getting hot. I suspect a sticking compressor variable solenoid valve - so will try tapping it while the ac is running. Here is hoping ! Adrian Trebicki.

Yes yes yes the air con is now working !

I warmed up the engine , put on the ac switch, set the throttle to 2000 rpm and tapped the compressor solenoid valve with a punch and light hammer.

The revs dropped to 1800 rpm and the air con started working. Outlet pipe to condenser got hot Yipee and ducts in car started blowing cold air.

If you guys ever have this problem, check your fuses , check for any fault codes present, check that the centre nut on the air con pulley is rotating - if not the rubber damper is sheared and the compressor is seized. regas the system and if still not working - TAP THE COMPRESSOR SOLENOID VALVE GENTLY. Mine was stuck with non use.

Good luck ! Adrian Trebicki 29/04/2013i

Could someone please post a photo of whereabouts this is? Which bit needs gentle tapping?

Any chance of some photos mate. My air con has stopped working as well?

Your post is weird to say the truth. Your car should ideal around 1000RPM if the A/C working or not. Mine does! Moreover, if everything is working then your losing refrigerant and that is it.

I am guessing that the OP was using something to press the accelerator down to increase the engine speed in the belief that at this that speed the AC would definitely work if it was okay.

I would also have hoped that any garage etc that refills fridge systems would know the weight of recovered R134A, and if knowing that they had just, a few days/weeks ago, loaded that system up to the correct charge, would have the brains to say "it is leaking" if they now found it a bit "low". Also, they should, recover+weigh > vac out and check that it holds a vac (if not leak check using OFN pressure), then load with correct weight of R134A.
