Reversing Sensors

Featured Replies

I have had troubled reversing sensors on my pride and joy for 3 years, so with genuine Skoda replacements costing £130 or so each (two dead) I have explored an alternative route!

Skoda sell a kit called BEA500001.

This is a kit for the Skoda Superb for those that did not come out of the factory with PDCs.

I bit the bullet and bought a kit on ebay for £90.

Installation:

Rear lights out, bumper off:

Old sensors removed from the bumper, leaves a hole behind (x4):

Dremel tool needs to be used to widen the slots so the sticky pad and new sensor can fit in easily:

Also drill a couple of 2mm holes in each grey tab to use to tie-wrap the wiring loom onto for support.

I did not want to rely on the sticky pad to hold the sensors in so I applied generous amounts of silicone to help keep it in.

Guide the loom through the existing hole in the bodywork on the RHS of the car, it seals perfectly, just like the original one that came out.

Then a bit of wiring will need to be done. Unclip the plug from the RHS light cluster:

The Blue/Red and Brown cables will need to be removed from the plug. Pry the plug open with a flat screwdriver and use a bit of intelligence to pull these two out. Then replace them with the ones in the provided loom from the kit and follow instructions.

The speaker will need to be placed up through the hole on the RHS of the parcel shelf where the RHS rear parcel shelf speaker sits and stuck in with its own sticky pad.

Bumper re-fitted, and final result:

All working sweet and lovely!

BTW I am now selling the two good sensors, PM if interested, otherwise going on ebay soon.

I hope someone finds this guide useful, I know this kit has been mentioned before but its fitting has not been documented on Briskoda.

Brilliant job, hopefully these are more durable than the tat they charge £130 a pop for! :) Thanks for sharing, I've seen that kit advertised but not been able to find any pics of it installed.

I might be interested in one - i've got an internmittent fault on one of mine... How much you after?

Very nice guide and good pictures!

Excellent write up ... thanks for that.

Do you know if the sensors are available separately if one goes down on the retrofit option .... though I suppose another £90 for 4 spare sensors isn't the end of the world and 4 sensors should last the car out, I reckon.

Yes they are available. The user manual even defines how to determine which one is broken based on the emitted beeps. Self diagnostics. The system works great, very pleased with it. Starts beeping at 1.5m, continuous tone at 0.3m.

Does that use the standard skoda beeper? Or did it have an aftermarket beeper with it? Thanks

£50?  For that I will send them all out.  You never know perhaps one of the other two which came on on vagcom as faulty were just wiring faults or something.

Two are good though definitely.

Regarding the speaker, the kit comes with its own speaker.  It's good, I can't fault it.

I will give you £30 for the two if u take it!
