Service Spanner on after 5k ?

Featured Replies

I did a service on my car 5K ago, reset the service indicator following the how to guide on here and thought, great, another job done.

Now the service spanner has come on and the word "OIL" flashes on my dash for several minutes after starting and the car, as I said, has only done 5K since the service. As a result I am some what confused, I used Quantum PD oil 505.01 so it was the right stuff, I have done a total mileage of 15k since I bought the car and the car is now saying it needs a service (in effect it's fourth in 15k) despite the seller saying it had, had one when I bought it at 64k. I did another oil and filter change at 67k as I was going on holiday and didn't want to risk it as I was going to be doing about 2k during the holiday mostly at high speeds, plus I didn't know if the seller had put the right spec stuff in, (better safe than sorry being my motto here).

I changed the oil and filter again at 75K (2k early), as I was getting all the belts (Timing, Alternator, tensioners and rollers) done and now at 79k the spanner and OIL warning are on again.

The weekly oil check indicates almost no loss and minimal usage, this car doesn't seem to use oil, lucky if I use a litre every 6-7k.

Is it a case of the service lamp being out of synch or do I just reset or do another service?

Anyone else had similar experience?

Any thoughts and or suggestions appreciated, cheers all, Jimbo.

Just reset it load of rubbish anyways!

Intervals probs set at 5k!

Nowt you can do without vag com or a fault code reader

Mine came on last week, still got 5k until next service/10k miles

Checked the oil and everything else is fine, just reset it and it hasn't come back on

After much thought Jase, your suggestion may be right, the service interval being 10k on these cars would mean that there was a major one due at 80k which I'm only a few hundred miles short of so I'll just reset the indicator and not worry unduly about it as I don't have VAG Com or a fault code reader.

After all I did use O.E. parts to do the last service so it should be ok, so I'll follow yours and Harry's advice, cheers mate!

INSP and OIL aren't the same thing, have a little read of the manual.

We are in the middle of decorating the room where it was stored so it wasn't where it was meant to be, eventually found it this morning, had a read, now know what you mean.
