Anyone know much about D2 brake kits

Featured Replies

Looking at new brake kits for the mongrel and the D2 brake kit is apparently better for fast road / odd trackday use due to having caliper dust seals (which the K Sports don't have as they are designed to be race specific)

They also are red as standard, which I like.... :D

I would be going for the 330mm kit if I do go for it. Looking at £1,050 for the complete kit - everything.

They seem to be more common in the jap circles, ill ask rice burning mates.

Are you unhappy with the brembos?!

  • Author

Not unhappy but they need work and I fancy a change.

Its funny how after a trackday most of us are looking for better bits. I'll wait for a week or two to have a proper think.

Been looking too Jase, let me know your findings!

Also looked at the Forge 6 pot kit

D2 kit is apparently tailored very much toward the fast road / odd trackday market. Sounds more up my street. Not familiar with the forge kit.

Look nice too!

Did you order through D2 themselves? Apex?

Ah if only I had spotted this sooner could of possibly saved you some money and got as good if not slightly better setup.

Where I work, machine a lot of the calipers and disc bells to suit the WRC cars aswell as machining the stuff for Vagbrem for DaveB.

Mainly use all AP racing discs and calipers so they are good quality and also come in red too with a selection of pads to choose from

if memory serves me right they are related in some way to k-sport brakes

They are - Mine are coming in from Corby motorsport who were cheaper than "brakes4U" which looked to be an official outlet. Not too sure. Also the chap I spoke to in sales knows his stuff. so I thought it best to go through them

Looking forward to getting them on my car now!

Will they fit behind 17in wheels then??

Yeah but you'll need a high offset to clear I think

  • Author

Should have better clearance than brembos

The kit just cost me another £216 as I decided it would be fruitless to get such good brakes and not have the best pads possible. DS2500 will now be included! :D

Bit late i know but iv just read this on the gt4oc

So as like many have my cheap coilovers coming and brake kit coming. I know its not ohlins grade stuff and don't expect it to be.

However im tired of people saying that one brand of taiwan stuff is better than the other. they all come from Taichung City and all made by the same machinery .

So If you own product from taiwan please put up pictures to show why one taiwan company is better than the other.

Of the top of my head here are the main companies:

No.1-3, Ln. 301, Yongchun E. 3rd Rd., Nantun Dist., Taichung City 408, Taiwan

No. 108, Fuciang St., North District, Taichung City 404, Taiwan R.O.C

TW RACING PARTS INC, No.3, 10th Industrial Rd., Xitun Dist., Taichung City 407, Taiwan

>> http://www.bcec.com.tw/history/history.html (BC coilovers which everyone says there from New Zealand -- actually Taiwan "BC" stands for - Taiwan Bor-Chuann Enterprise

Taichung City 413

So some nice informative discussion why one taiwan company is better thatn the other. Or maybe the knowledge they are all made by the same business

edit additional - not verified from a honda forum -

Apex'i , BC Racing, D2, Greddy, Ksport, Megan, Omni, Skunk2, Tanabe, T1R are all made at Bor Chuan in Taiwan. They are built side by side to the same awful specs. The only difference is the color of the paint. Bor Chuan will build you your own brand so long as you order 100 sets, and order them in a color combo that is not yet taken.

Buddy Club, Driftworks, Kei Office, and Stance are the same deal, built at HD Systems in Korea.

The major issue is the dampers. They are total junk, and the absolute most *** backwards design that the automotive world has ever seen. The valving is junk to begin with, and what's worse is they've tied rebound and bump adjustment together. That's exactly the opposite of what you want. You need to be able to create a bias between bump and rebound to properly tune a damper

Got these yet Jason?

Got these yet Jason?

Aye, being fitted on Wednesday, subject to checking wheel clearance, etc. Calipers are fapping huge! :D

Useless without pics mate!!

  • Author

You want me to go out to the shed, just to take pics? :D

It's all neatly boxed up, so I shall just take photos when they get fitted.

I would be very interested to hear your thoughts on them.

I started a new thread with some photos in the fabia 1 section

Not sure if the DS pads will suit you, they do need warming up before they will work properly, especially in the winter. Mintex 1144's seem to work at all temperatures and are very good for Road & Track driving.

How're they holding up Jason? Was it the 330mm kit you went for? May have just ordered some for the TT :D
