Hello guys, just looking for a bit off advice please.

My parents went out on Saturday and test drove the new vrs loved it and put a deposit on it etc.

But there is one problem my dad needs a tow bar for a few things such as trailer and bike carrier.

Apparently they can't be fitted to the vrs :(

Why is this and is it true?

He's now looking at walking away because off this.

Thanks any help would be great

Wouldn't want to ruin a vRS for starters by putting a tow bar on it!!

May have something to do with sports suspension or it can't take the weight. Who knows.

The VRS is not permitted a tow bar.

You could fit one for a bike rack mount, but I believe that using it for towing (even a small trailer) could prove problematic if you are stopped as officially the car has no safe towing weight stated.

Skoda have told him one can't be fitted full stop :/

Same as the Monte Carlo, as for towing its just taking the odd rubbish to the tip etc he wouldn't want to ruin the car etc.

I've told him to not worry about it but he has got quite a few things like cycle carrier etc for a towbar etc.

He'd want a detachable one so you can't see it etc only when being used

Welcome to the forum.

Nothing to do with ruining the car.

Sadly the thing is that his insurance will be invalid if anything was to happen while towing.

(Even if you inform the Insurance Company and they say OK to fit a Towbar.)

Quite siimply the vRS is not Type Approved for towing and has not been given a allowable Towing Weight.

So its not even a case of up to 750kg unbraked being OK.

Obviously anyone can fit a towbar if they chose and take the consequences, and probably no one will ever know.

But Someone else fitting it for them, like a Towbar Fitter or Garage does know the rules & their responsibility.

This is what the rear Crash bar and Skoda Factory fitted weights looks like.

BLOODY RIDICULOUS! Surely anyone knows you can only drive at 60 max, on motorways, whilst towing anyway so if the standard car can tow, why not the Vrs? It would have a greater pulling power in order to do this. I am sure my Greenie can tow and that has lowered suspension, too!

Mu suspicion is that the clutch cant take it with the added bhp... Fabia clutches burn like an Englishman in a Mediterranean climate!

Yep - I only spotted this after ordering mine although not a job stopper for me it could have made my life easier. Aside from the fact it's not Type Approved for one (hence negating being able to have one) it might have something to do with the weights at the back, but for some reason think the rear diffuser might have something to do with it?

Could be a number of things such as suspension (won't take kindly to the weight hanging out the back for example) or the lower standard height?

In short, no - you can't have a towbar on a vRS Fabia Mk2

Physically Cars Weight, kerb weight or gross, suspension, DSG, Brakes, Body Work etc has nothing to do with it, they just never submitted figures when having them Approved.

Lots of bigger and able vehicles do not have EU type Approval and can not be used for towing.

Other Fabias, like a 1.2 6v 60 ps have been given 500kg unbraked & 800 kg braked.

Even a 1.2 TSI 105ps DSG is 500kg unbraked & 1200 kg braked,

and i would go for one of those for towing if not a diesel.

(You need to remember then that if you have an unbraked Trailer Plated for 750kg, you can not even tow that empty.)

EG.

Say you have a Car Transport Trailer 'plated to 3500kg, or even just 2000kg,' & empty it weighs under 500kg,

you can not legally tow that trailer with nothing on it if the appropriate vehicle Weights are not shown on the Vehicle Plate.
