Water pump

Featured Replies

Just been looking through my vrs receipts etc and it had the cambelt done 1k miles ago but there's no water pump on the receipt, the car has 61k should I get it done and is it easy/expensive?

Cheers guys

The reason for changing the water pump with the cambelt is that the water pump often fails at about 1.5 cambelt changes, and it costs about as much in labour to change the water pump as to change a cambelt. So if you do them together it's preventative, and the water pump effectively only costs for the part.

So I'd leave it until you start getting overheating or make sure the water pump is changed at the next cambelt change.

I asked about the w/p when getting my first cambelt done. Was told they don't usually go on the diesels. It's more of a 1.8T problem.

Just peace of mind really as like said earlier, you'll be paying similar labour charges to change it further down the line so people change it at the same time.

Right cheers guys, with they'd change it!

Water pumps can chug on for ages so you may well be ok until the next scheduled belt change! ;)
