ash tray broken

Featured Replies

hi there, i dont smoke so use the front centre ash tray for keys etc, on my 51 plate octavia. however it has now decided to stay open and cant work out how to fix it. has anybody else come across this and managed to fix theirs ?

Mine did the same, snapped by mistake trying to get it off, but glued it and it's working fine again

its possibly the pin inside, for the locking mechanism, take a look

Mines possessed :D sometimes it lets u in

Sometimes it dont :D

Dam things

As already mentioned, the pin snaps off and the the lid won't stay shut.

I have one in the shed which I repaired, but then replaced it with the wood trimmed version.

I see that you are in Middlesbrough too, so I could be persuaded to part with mine for a sensible offer.....

Mine had done the same, removed it, took out the locking bit where the guide pin had broken off, drilled out where it was and fitted a (very) cut down pop rivet pin.

No more plastic to break as replaced with metal.

thanks for the replys to my topic, never one to be beaten i looked at it after posting the topic and realised that there must have been a pin of somekind that ran through the little mechanism at the rear of the tray so i manufactured one from a nail that was cut down and fitted after drilling a hole where the pin was. result !! now all i've got to do are the 2 front hub bearings, leaking steering rack to replace along with changing the antiroll bar whilst i'm in there, should take a bit longer than the ash tray i guess !! cheers, mike.

My ashtray likes to suprise me, its stays closed, and then, when i least expect it, it snaps open with what seems like the efficiency of a rifle action. I find it far easy and less frightning to just leave it open.
