Rear brake backplate

Featured Replies

Hi everybody,lookin for advice please.

Thought i had a small problem, but appears to have become major.

My rear brake nearside back plate has rotted away from mountings and fell on to the disc causing major damage to the disc. The disc needs replaced, but my friend who is a mechanic has found that it had also caused caliper to seize on,brake pads have worn right down(pad sensor did not come on)anddamage my abs/tcs sensors.I don't know if any other damage has been caused.

I was going to take car to my nearest dealer to fix.Does anyone know if there was a recall on the back plate as the plate is original.I had heard something about plates being changed because this was a common fault.

I had a componet replaced about 10months ago under warranty as my tcs sensor was staying on.Warranty has now ran out about 7months.

This is a comman problem, just had my rear o/s done on my 2008 octy. Mines rubbed against the disc and caused no damage what so ever to the disc as the disc is made from a far harder metal than the back plate. As for causing the caliper to seize I can't see how this would happen, as the plate has do itching to do or touch any moving parts of the caliper.
