Whistling Citigo

Featured Replies

I've got a musical Citigo :giggle:

At speeds of 60mph and above I have a slight whistle. At first I thought it was my ears playing tricks but having been up and down the motorway a few times I hear a faint whistle. Its only a quiet whistle and can only be heard when the Radio is off and u actually listen for it but its there. Its only happened since the weather went from warm to cold but now its happening all the time. Anyone elses whistle????

Also another noise is a slight scrape when turning very slowy or braking. Same again its only very faint but its there. Im thinking either brakes are dirty or grit stuck somewhere and it needs to be cleaned.

Oh... and then there a clunk from the wipers. I thought it was the passenger wiper hitting the pillar but having got out and looked, no wipers are hitting anything nor are they dirty as I've cleaned them.

Anyone else got clunks, scrapes or a whistle???

I've got it booked in but to make life even easier I've landed myself a job at a Skoda Dealership, Simpsons in Colne as Service Advisor. I hope I can be of more help

Can't help with the noises but good look with the new job :)

I found with the window down doing 40mph+ the seat belt oscillates in-between my shoulder and the top fixing and makes a loud ass noise and is really annoying!

but apart from that I find there's bit of a transmission whine at times but thats due to a small amount of sound deadening, as expected on a "cheap car".

Its more engine whine than anything. I've checked my windows and had them up and down a few time to make sure they are up fully. It sounds like a hose is letting ait through very fast through a small hole.

There is a whistle coming from the transmission, I reckon at around 60mph. Ease off and it goes away, foot back down and and it there again at around the same speed. No worries from me, just a quirk of the car me thinks. I just get a creaking from the dash now and again, mainly on cold morning starts. Used to get the latter on my previous car, a Vauxhall, both I think because of the mass of plastic that is there.

You might find this previous discussion useful. It has an interesting conclusion:

Some owners refer to the sound as a whistle. I believe the sound emanates from the regenerative alternator. I think it is only noticeable on the Greentech versions which have this feature.

I participated in that thread too and had the whine.....funny I say had, because I am not conscious of it nor listening for it anymore. Maybe it's because I am either driving around town or mostly on the Motorways, so either above or below the 50-60mph when it happens.

I should say though that my car is not a Greentech.

Hi Liam2

Not wishing in any way to be offensive, but are you absolutely sure your Elegance is not a Greentech? According to last years Skoda brochure and the current on-line all UK Elegance models are Greentech, hence reading your profile I have always assumed the same. However I did note you are in Ireland and maybe you get a different spec over there?

It would be interesting to have the point cleared up!??

Cheers!

Mine's had the the whine since Day one. The car's fine, i wouldn't worry about it.

I'd also suggest it's the alternator. Most car alternators make a bit of a whistle when they're being asked to charge up a partly flat battery. On normal cars you only hear it when you've left the lights on or made excessive use of the 12V socket while parked.

I think it may be an Ireland thing as my brochure also shows all Elegances as Greentech, be it 60 or 75 hp versions. Only the ASG is 'normal'.
