Cooling system

Featured Replies

Hi, Before i start sorry about some of my dopey questions but this is the first Skoda i've owned ( Been a Nissan owner for years).. Why does my MkII Octavia have no radiator cap, Only cap i see is on the expansion tank? I've Been told that the coolant never needs replacing, The coolant i can see in the expansion tank is a pinky colour which i've been told is a B12 (??) chemical  used in the cooling system,,, Is this correct or have been told a load of old boll**ks? :giggle: Thanks guys..

Coolant gets changed every so often (4yr?). Topping up if it needs it is done via the expansion tank. You are supposed to use VAG standard fluid but many manufacturers make it to spec just like oil.

The antifreeze is pink in VAG cars.

I don't think I've seen a radiator cap in any car since I started driving 20yr ago. It's always been via the expansion tank.

Pink (or orange) is normal for modern OAT coolant (VAG spec presently G12++ ).

Also, although not relevant here, I've seen expansion tanks with pressure caps on them, so that's a sensible question too.
