Strange central locking fault

Featured Replies

My recently purchased 1998 1.6 GLXi has a strange fault on the central locking (non-remote).

The driver's door lock will not lock the system - nothing happens - but when turning the key to unlock, and holding it there for a few moments, all four electric windows go down. I can lock the car using the passenger door lock or the boot lock.

Any suggestions please?

Tony

Door catch is faulty id say. One of the micro switches is playing up.

The windows should go up and down when the key is held over, its a feature.

knackered lock maybe, either that or a bad connection somewhere

Thanks for that, Lummox.

If I try to lock the door, nothiong happens for about 3 seconds then the windows go *DOWN*. That shouldn't happen when I am trying to lock the car. They also go down if I hold the key in the unlock position for about 3 seconds. That I can understand, just not when trying to lock the car.

Thanks for the reminder! Yes, I am turning to the left. Whether I turn left (lock) or right (unlock) all four windows go down.

Thanks Lumox. So I need a new catch. Can I replace it without much dismantling?
