Radiator, rust and a hole!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Few (probably simple) questions I'm hoping you can help me with...

Radiator

My radiator seems loose. In the case of this being abnormally loose, where on earth do I begin in tightening it up? I can't see any accessible areas so something must have to come off? See video.... http://videobam.com/ciYaS

Rust

Never noticed quite how rusty the exterior of the engine block is in places. Please see photos. Again, is this perfectly normal for an 8 year old VRS or not?

Hole

Whilst topping up the steering pump with fluid I noticed a hole that looks like it should be plugged with a cap or something. I want to confirm if it should be topped with something, or if it should be exposed as in the pictures.

Thanks to all who can help!

Radiator - replace radiator mounts

Rust - corrosion is not unusual

Hole - there should be a rubber bung. It's taken out so you can see the TDC mark on the flywheel (when changing cambelt, etc). DON'T PUT ANY FLUID IN THE HOLE.

You need to take off the bumper to get at the radiator mountings. Your video shows that it is the whole radiator support unit which is moving, not the radiator itself. The radiator is on rubber bushes, but the apparently lose part is bolted. Appears a horrific job, but isn't too bad.Start with the under-wheel-arch covers.
