hi everyone iam new to the skoda world having vw up till now(although its much the same). I recently purchased a 2004 skoda Octavia vrs 180bhp 1.8t 20 v. and iam experiencing a problem which I would be most gratefull if anyone has ever experienced this themselves or may know what the problem is. the car starts and runs great no problem. no smoke and no funny noises. also idles smoothly and seems fairly responsive(normally). when you are driving the car it will suddenly loose power like its running out of fuel but dousnt misfire. when it dous this I turn the ignition off briefly then restart and off it goes again with no probs and there are no engine management lights on. I have had the car plugged in and its showing no faults or codes. also there is no pattern to when it dous it. sometimes you can drive it 30 miles before it dous it other times only a couple. really struggling with this one I can only think it must be a mechanical issue over electrical. any one have any idea.

Could be coilpacks or maf failing. Also check for splits in your breather pipes, right from the top to where is connects to the inlet manifold.

No fault codes? Do you have a VAG specific code reader, or just a generic OBDII reader?

If you have used a code reader it probably doesn't recognise the code so you need to get VCDS plugged in. There should be a code stored as your car is going into limp mode.

Symptoms sound like 17705 code to me.

I am getting exactly the same i mine, Its due the Coilpack recall so i am going to try that first.

Next is the MAF.

Annoyingly i get no Fault codes.

MAF failure often doesn't throw a code unless it's shorted to ground or become intermitent.

If your ECU is going into limp it should have a code stored. Did you use VCDS or a generic code reader?

Sorry OP.

I use VCDS.

Have you tried unplugging the MAF?

its really intermittent.

Got the car booked in with local Skod under the coilpack recall. we know them well so they have ordered 4, I have 2 L and 2 D so they may only change 2 as a part of the recall, but the parts serviceing guy said he may see if he can get all 4 dont anyway.
