Fabia 11 - soundproofing anyone?

Featured Replies

This will make a change from oil consumption - mpg's - & mickey mouse cosmetics etc.

I wonder if any one has had some favourable experience with sound deadening products. I have a CR90 TDI 1.6 and would love to make it a little quieter if possible without going overboard.

I realise that road noise is perhaps the biggest negative in the fabia's noise charactoristics - but cannot think of a way to ease or overcome this (unless you know better).

My local motorists shop used to sell thin self adhesive bitumen pads (about 25cm square) - but no more unfortunately.

Soundwise, as TDI drivers will confirm, one day the unit is quiet and smooth, and the next its like a bag of nails! Obviously ambient atmospherics influence the inlet charactoristics etc.

Look forward to receiving your comments - thanks in advance.

cheers

I bought a noisekiller soundproofing kit and fitted it last week. Cost was £199 collected. Came with rubber mats for under the carpet on both the drivers and passenger side front and back and rubber mats for under the rear seat and over the spare wheel well. Also had foil backed sticky pieces to fit in the spare wheel well and onto the rear wheel arches behind the plastic trim. The same foiled backed pieces were provided for inside the bonnet under the factory fit sound deadening piece. .

The noisekiller man said it was very effective. I would say it is moderately effective. Has made no difference to the noise from the engine when running but quieter when stopped. Road noise still more than I would like but a little better than before. If you ask me was it worth it, I would probably say no. But I'm not going to take it out as some of it is a bugger to fit in the first place. Hope this helps.

My wife's 1.2 3cyl Fabia had no soundproofing under the bonnet.

I bought the kit from my dealer £15 and fitted in about 30secs.

It made a huge difference to the noise level in the car.

I think most models have this kit as standard.

I also have felt under the rear seats, felt under the boot floor and rubber boot floor cover on my vRS and I recon it's quite quiet
