towbar

Featured Replies

I know this has been covered but seems I couldn't find the answer . A friend pretends to install a towbar to his 2003 fabia break and is concerned about the wiring, can it be just wired to the rear lights.

you can buy specific kits where you unplug the loom from the rear light and plug it in to the tow bar wiring then plug the tow bar wiring in to the lights. The kits look tidy , pretty genuine and are easy to uninstall

Hi, I know this has possibly been covered before elsewhere, but you can wire directly onto the rear lights. The one thing you need to do however is get someone with vag-com or similar to enable the towing indicator. I have gone over this as I wanted the dash indicator to show the trailer lights working, but the information was patchy. The central convenience system runs the indicators for the car, and detects extra loading for a trailer if enabled. You have to check the coding for the central convenience system, make a note of it (most important!). Unless the car came with trailer indicators enabled, the last digit of the number for the coding will be even. If its even, add 1 to the number (mine was 25738 - no trailer, 25739 - trailer indicator enabled) and this will turn the dash light on.

also i seem to remember the fabia vrs cannot legally tow? not sure if this is correct but it seems to be stuck in my mind for some reason?
