Key swapping / battery thing

Featured Replies

Just wondering, if I have a fabia remote flip-key with a dead battery, can I just split it like this, and swap in the good bottom end with the battery on to the key blade for the car? I assume the transponder is in the key part, not the button part? This is a spare good key I have which is not coded to any car at all at the moment

Have never been in this situation before despite owning fabias since 2001! :D

you'll need to swap over the circuit boards aswell, Jason as they are coded to the remote central locking, the transponder is for the ignition. :)

The circuit board is only held in by one plastic tab at the bottom, it can be prised off easily enough.

Ah of course. I might just try and get the battery out. How the hell do you split the button bit? Doesn't seem obvious to me looking at it.

Ohh, scratch that! I just got a fingernail in and managed to get it apart. Now can get the battery out :D Aha, its a CR2032 3v thing. Fairly common from memory.

yep, there's a small gap (to the left on the pic) where you can twist it to open, then swap the battery. FYI, under the Skoda logo there is a small Phillips head screw to seperate the two halves of the blade part.

Cheers - not necessary to do that in my case.

Hoping once I stick the battery back in the remote fob will simply work properly again, and I can replace the fuse for the alarm siren, as the owner took it out due to having to use the key in the lock to open/close.
