Aftermarket exhaust..is it worth it?

Featured Replies

Pretty self explanatory!

I used to have a cat back non res on my petrol ibiza cupra. Is there much point on a diesel?

I got my back box chopped off and replaced with a straight pipe by my local exhaust place, actually love the sound of it and it only cost £70

For noise - YES

For power gains (unless going for BIG turbo upgrades) - NO

Ah, thought as much!

Does it actually sound decent or like a fart in a can? :giggle: Also would it affect performance negatively at all?

Depends what you have done to the car to be honest.

Cat back normal / remapped had a deeper rumble and when the loud pedal was pressed a nice "roar".

Now got a turbo back system with a few "extras" and it sounds more "petrol" like on the move but still like a tractor on tick over lol.

Search for "fabia Mufflerectomy" to give you some idea of noises ;)

Shall have a looksee! Thanks for your help :)

I had a mufflerectomy first and it was a nice subtle noise, now I have a turbo back with a back box and that sounds alot deeper but not overly loud :)

Mine with a piper system, decat & 1 box. I'm not a fan of the no boxes sound so kept one silencer.

How many boxes does the vrs have as standard? One and the cat?

I put a sportex back box on mine off of a escort and it doesn't really sound any different. Thinking about decatting it to make it louder. The escort was fairly loud with it on which is why I got asked to take it off of it but no difference on mine

Was the Escort a petrol?

Was the Escort a petrol?

Yeah was a petrol of one. To be honest I did it for looks so not too fussed as it was free but if I'd paid for it ideal be a bit gutted

Pretty sure diesel aftermarket exhausts have much smaller boxes (or less sound reduction in them) to get a bit of sound from a diesel as they are quieter than a petrol. When Piper were designing their Fabia exhaust it uses a little box.

If you were to buy one to go on a Fabia it'd be a smaller box I'd have thought, still, as you say for nothing its all good.

To be honest it is a small box, the baffles are a spiral straight through type. If it wasn't for the fact the standard tip sits too low and doesn't fill the cut out properly I'd of been happy with the standard exhaust being left on. Was just easier to weld this on than try and get the standard exhaust up half a inch or so. Also tried a oval you can just see in the pic but thought a twin looks more "modified"
