2.0 TDI Run in?

Featured Replies

Possibly the wrong area of the forum but as its Octy III related I thought I'd post it here.

I'm picking up my new 2.0 TDI Elegance tomorrow from Mansfield and then driving it back up to County Durham immediately afterwards.

I know its perceived nowadays that new cars are already run in by the time you get them, but what's the general advice for running in a modern diesel despite that, especially given it's first outing is going to be 2-3 hours on the motorway?

Thanks in advance for any advice

Drive up the A1.

Lots of roundabouts and fast and slow parts to let you go up and down the gears and revs.

Just drive it normally.

Try not to rev it over 3000rpm for the first 1000-1500km, and if you really feel the need to do that, do it after the water reached 90 degrees; don't try kickdowns if it is under 1800rpm (better above 2000rpm)... that will be my advice :)

Finally got her home. 2 miles on the clock when I collected her! Unbelievably smooth drive for a brand new car, and so comfortable.

Got stuck in a steady moving tail back for the first 20-30 miles or so with a good few roundabouts so that helped to get up and down the gears somewhat. However once on the motorway and over 50-60 I found it almost impossible to drop below 6th gear so I varied the speeds and revs the whole journey best I could..... Hopefully I haven't committed any schoolboy errors, time will tell I suppose.

Thanks again for the advice ;)
