fabia part compatibility help please

Featured Replies

Hi guys

I've been lurking for a couple of years and have really enjoyed the banter and wonderful advice. Hopefully some of what I have to report is useful.

I bought a Fabia 1.4mpi silverline earlier this year and it's been a pig with numerous faults thanks to a bit of a rogue used car dealer. I've had abs, eml, epc and pas warning problems. The temperature and fuel gauges didn't work as well as a list of other things which were supposedly checked according to their 60 point check list.

To their credit they persisted with attempting to fix the issues until it got to the expensive fault - the PAS light. The independent auto-electrician narrowed this down to a faulty dash pod (instrument cluster). They bought a used dash pod and sure enough no warning lights; also this meant that the speedo wouldn't work. The auto-electrician decided his software couldn't reprogram the cluster and so it would need to go to the main dealer. The main dealer was unable to program the cluster either.

I consulted a different dealer who informed me that only a new pod can be programmed and not a used one. I am not sure if the original dealer had been told it was a used cluster or not. The 2nd dealer I consulted quoted me £550 for a new dash pod fitted and programmed.

I have the opportunity of buying a new, old-stock cluster but I am confused if it will be suited to my car and would very much appreciate some guidance.

My current cluster has the part number 6Y2 920 860 G B41 whilst the one I am looking at buying is 6Y2 920 880 F KDO. Because they're both 6Y2 should I be ok swapping them out? I realise I may still need to have the replacement unit programmed but at least this way I'll pay no more than half the dealer quoted price.

My car's VIN check provides the following information:

Model name: 6Y Skoda Fabia Equipment level and body type: P Classic, Junior, hatchback (5 doors) Engine: B 1.4 MPI 8V, petrol 50 kW (68 PS) @ 5000 rev., 120 Nm @ 2500 rev., OHV, EU2 (D4*,EU3-DDK*,EU4*) Engine codes possible: AME, AQW, ATZ Model Year: 3 2003

Any help most appreciated. Thanks all.
