Built in sat nav question

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm thinking of getting a 1.9 Tdi Elegance as my next company car and have a couple of questions about the sat nav.

1 has anyone got the replacement disk that enables TMC (Traffic Managment Channel) on this, and if so where from?

2 With the TMC do you have to have the radio tuned to Classic FM (they broadcast the data) in order for it to work like you do on the Passat, or is it inteligent enough to 'listen' to this on it's own leaving you to listen to whatever station you prefer, as on my current Laguna?

Thanks in advance,

Martin

Sorry, I tried to post this in the Superb forum, but it appeared here. Could one of the moderators please move it?

If this was supposed to be in superb forum, i presume therefore its the superb sat nav ur on about (very ovious, but hey im blonde!) which is the same as mine.... and i can have it on any station and it listens to the others as you put it.

I tend to listen to london station "XFM" which doesnt support TP soon as a TA comes up it switches to the other station (usually BBC London) then when TA is over it reverts back.

Thanks, yes it is a Superb. But I'm not on about the audiable traffic news. I'm on about TMC, which will warn you about traffic problems on the route it has you following and then off alternate routes.

I know the unit will do it as I looked in the manual in the show room and the dealer confirmed that the standard disk they supply does not have the license, but that other disks are avaliable from thrid parties.

If it's anything like my Pioneer, you don't have to be tuned to the TMC broadcaster to get the information - the unit 'listens' in the background. But Classic FM is one of my 6 presets.

The vehicle has a separate Traffic Messageing chanel (TMC) receiver built in which monitors Classic FM whilst you are tuned in on another station. These messages instruct the Nav system to display warning triangles etc for roadworks, queues, bad weather, accidents etc. However, the symbol information is contained on the map disc itself an must have the TMC (blue) logo printed on it to get these symbols an verbal warnings to work. I think the standard disc supplied is non-TMC which is a bit stingy if you ask me!! Jatman

Especially considering the factory-fitted SatNav is about 1.5k overpriced compared to throwing away your Symphony yourself and buying the unit !!

(probably able to sell the Symphony for good cash as well, making it even more crazy IMHO)
