skoda oct mk1 05 and skoda oct mk2 07 tdi owner

Hi my skoda oct mk2 07 is pulling to the left then right, when braking first thing in the morning for 5 mins, then drives fine,

put new ball joint on but still has bit of play, brakes are fine,

had quick look at inner track rod ends on steering rack and looks like the play is coming from there

do you think i need new steering rack

Cheers Mark

forgot to mention just had clutch done and was fine before that

When i had a MK1 i managed to replace just the steering rack tie bars. (the bit that the track rod end screws onto) as there is another ball joint inside the plastic gaiter. I would imagine that the same is true for the MK2, but could not say for certain. Much cheaper than a new rack if you can change them.

hi had another look tonight, as need to get this sorted, defo play coming from inner track rod, Would that mean just renew the inner rod or whole rack needs done ? as the steering is fine, no probs

apart from movement when braking

Replace the whole track rod, quite rare for a rack to go on any Vw or their running gear. I've been with Vw 10 years and only ever seen a handful of racks replaced. That's not to say it isn't that but go with the cheaper option first, when renewing it make sure you count the turns on the track rod end to get the steering straight, or get the tracking done afterwards to make sure it's driving true.

yip got to try that first, but just noticed steering wheel light (YELLOW) just came on after putting back together

I think this happens anyway if you disconnect the battery, clears after 20-30 seconds of driving i think
