Anyone been to Goodwood before.

Featured Replies

This year will be my first visit to the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Apparently the car parks open at 7 and the event opens at 8:30 so I'm planning to get there for about 8 - 8:15

I have a few questions though:

1) Does the whole area come to a stand still?

2) I believe its a fair old walk to the top of the hill, is there a "tractor and trailer" type service to the top?

3) I assume food is super expensive?

4) Does it get really busy, to the extent that you have to get a track side seat and sit there for the whole day because you'll loose it if you dont?

5) If i get there before the doors open, is there a loo in the car park area? The missus will no-doubt need a **** the second we arrive

If you like F1 that area of the Paddock gets very busy, If you get there early might be worth heading for that first.

If you have a favourite driver find out what they are driving & what time they are due to go up the hill & time your visit to there area of the paddock when they arive to get the car. Most drivers are incredibly relaxed on the day as its a fun day for them & are happy to chat & sign Autographs.

Get there as early as you can as there is honestly more there than you can do in a day. The opposite side of the track from the paddock tends to have all the trade stands & people selling racing memorabilia as well as hopefully the Scalextric tent again, always good for a bit of fun !!

First, to answer your topic-title question - yes, eight times already, alternating between Festival and Revival.

Stuart's done most of the answering, so I'll only add to that.

1. Only on the A27 around and to Chichester, coming from the East or West. Where are you staying? I've come to know my way around some country lanes that will allow you to circumnavigate the queues without any problem...

2. Yes, but the tractor service only starts halfway up. However, will it still be there with the forest now dedicated to the rally-stage re-enactment? The uphill climb isn't all that steep, though.

3. Yes, it is, but no problem to bring your own supplies. Everyone does. The whole ground is a huge picknick area...

4. If it is burnouts and other trackside action in front of Goodwood House that you don't want to miss - yes, I'd get there early. However, there are lots of other great places to watch. One of my favourites is the short straight way uphill before the last corner and right before where the tractor starts. It's usually fairly quiet there and you get a good close look at the cars. The ones going for a time are very spectacular in the fast balls-out left-hand knick that follows. I'd divide your day(s) up in sections - take your time to scour the paddock, do some time at the startline, try to squeeze in in front of the house, etc. Don't bother to go all the way up to the finish - not a lot to see there since they changed the layout.

So am I right in assuming this year its the revival meet for you.

Yes!

And the Skud will be left at home this time. Instead we will be traveling in a group of Austin-Healeys with access to the pre-'66 car park.

Oh, and one of us is taking his Esprit, so he'll probably be doing circles around us all the way to the M23...

It was nice when I went last year - It was busy, but not to the point of fighting you're way through the crowd. You could get trackside quite easy, but you're not allowed to sit/stand on the bales of straw.

Food was a lot, for not a lot. :( (money/food)

It was a fair walk from the parking, but not too bad - just a leisurely 20 minute stroll, which is wheelchair friendly. :)

Might see you then, a mates trying to find a pre 66 car, probably wont be pristine but will be old enough

LOL Goodwood.

Hmm, I think a certain member on briskoda - and very experienced driver - has been banned from that circuit due to certain differences in opinion shall we say?

Never been myself but heard it can be a bit hit 'n' miss with the owners. :D

I think you're thinking of Bedford, Xav.

My Wife was passenger in a Ultima that was black flagged on a track day, something about reckless driving, how can 130 ish with the car at about 45 degrees round a bend be classed as reckless on a race track

Nope, not banned from Goodwood :P

I was within the noise limits at 97dB, induction was louder than the Miltek exhaust

Deceptive track....
