FS111 Caliper slider bolt threas fubar'd

Featured Replies

Cars a 110tdi and ive had a rattle coming from the car for last few weeks, Changed front discs and pads at the weekend and one of the caliper slider bolts just turns in the hub due to stripped threads Slight movement in the caliper which replicates the rattling noise ive been hearing.... So I'm guessing worn sliders and fubar'd thread has been giving me the annoying rattle... Noise isnt as bad now but that'll be down to slighly less play due to new discs and pads?

3 Questions,

How hard is to Helicoil the hub and use another bolt? Getting it in straight is likely to be awkward

And what other VAG cars use the same hub?.. Its the one piece jobby and using 280mm Discs.

Anyone have a partnumber for new slider bolts?

TIA guys...

Need to recut the threads the the next size up and then just put the helicoil in for the new size cut to take it back down.

Not hard to do

Stripped some myself

Just had to drill out and tap the bolts out of a TDI turbo this week lol ready for a new center

Turn =snap on the way out Fuuuuuuxxxxxxxxxxx hehe made my week

I noticed a similar problem with mine when I took the nearside hub off to get a new bearing fitted.

My mechanic wouldn't helicoil it, he drilled out the old knackered thread, inserted a bigger thread, chopped the end of the slide bolt off, and welded the thread off a bigger bolt on.

Floating calipers are a rubbish design...

Cheers guys... Is rethreading the hub easy enough?..as in it cuts ok?. Quite fancy this idea rather thn swapping hubs.

Anyone point me in the direction of the Part numbers for the sliders/bolts?
