Airbag light on

Featured Replies

Airbag light came on today and will not go off. It comes on with the ignition, briefly goes out and then comes on and stays on.

I suspect it's to do with the connections under the driver's seat. The seat position is adjusted from end to end and up to down each time the wife drives, perhaps I should have married someone taller!

I've looked under and can see/feel that the plastic connector carrier is dangling free. The actual connections appear fully plugged in. I can't see how it should be mounted. The cables appear undamaged.

Any suggestions please?

There,s a thread a few lines down on the same thing, and no reply as the outcome.I would have though that the seatbelt warning light would have been lit all the time if it had been something to do with seat electrics(weight sensor and connection to belt stalk),unless you have airbags built into the side of the seat.

My daughters fiestas seat belt alarm kept going off intermittently.Found 3 spa water bottles rolling about under the seats ,and hitting cables. Removed bottles all OK.Wish they were all that easy!

Thanks for replying, yes there are airbags in the sides of front seats.

A similar thing happened on my old Schitroen and on a friend's disAstra.

On my Schitroen, the fault arose from a poor connection in the wires under the driver's seat.

I pulled the connector apart, squeezed the female bit with pliers (ooh-er!) then re-connected. Job done.

My friend cured the problem on his disAstra in the same way.

My guess (and it is a guess) is on your Roomster, repeated flexing has either strained the connector or broken a wire.

Mind you if its still within 3 year warranty, bang it in quick!

Yep! That's the plan for Monday.

Good,as I was in my listening to a a garage supervisor at my local independent ,talking to customer of an 03 AUDI,over the phone ,telling him they couldn,t cancel his airbag warning light ,as Audi wouldn,t release the information on airbag safety systems. And he added for safety reasons Audi would be the only people to rectify the problem, and probably replace the whole airbag system, again for reasons of safety, and that would be worth more that the car.How true this is I dont know but I did feel sorry for the owner. And yes I know Skoda isn,t quite as prodigious as Audi, but it made me think about the complexity of these electrical systems, and I think an illuminated airbag light is now an MOT failure,if it wasn,t before.

Update.

Main Dealer read the fault code today (warranty) It said passenger side crash detector defect. Anyone know where that is? Booked in to fix it in a couple of weeks, meantime I'll just have to avoid crashing.

  • 1 month later...

Waiting by the car for my wife to come out and opened the door in preparation, and looked at the sticker warning about air bags and child safety seats, when I noticed a very  tiny cloth tag on the side of the seat saying "air bag".

3 years ive had my second-hand Scout, and Im still finding things on the car I didn,t know! I had.I knew I had air-bags in the pillars but not the seats.Must read the manual again!

Yes, fixed under warranty, but it took 2 further days at the dealers. Free courtesy car too. Apparently the crash sensor is behind the trim in the boot.
