From Mercedes 190E Cosworth to Octavia VRS

Hi

I have never been massively drawn to VRS's due to being a bit of a badge snob. But a few weeks ago I decided I wanted Rid of the Cossie and couldn't decide between going down the Evo or Skyline route or being a bit more practical and going down Mondeo ST or Golf GTI route.

A friend then PM'd me about his 53 plate Octy and I had a look and fell in love. It's done 122k, has full service history, it is in fantastic condition needs a bit of a clean but no rips or tears. There is one key scratch and some stone chips to sort and the rear wiper is intermittent but I ONLY PAID £2000 for it with a £230 Thule bike rack so seems pretty good to me so I bought it. I can't get over how awesome this car is or how economical. Fuel seems to be lasting for ages. I'm normally quite heavy footed but found I don't need to in this car it's just so enjoyable.

It's red with a black grill. Other than that and the stereo it is completely standard. Im tempted to paint the wheels black and lower it but really can't decide.

1st step is give it a good polish as the spoiler is a bit pink.

BTW before my friend it was owned by a fellow Briskoda member it has a key scratch on the rear n/s so if they are still members they may remember it.

Will try and add some pics later

Jon

Good to see you signed up on here mate!

You should pop along to one of the Maidstone meets sometime, only down the hill from you and it's a relaxed pub meal type thing. Not really any Mk1 VRS owners there any more but they're a great bunch of folks (and I really ought to go again!)

Stay away from the Octavia I part of the forums, it will make you want to spend loads on the car!

Doh already looked at that section lol. Getting me tempted, with 007p, induction kit, touch up the calipers, coilovers, new downpipe, paint the wheels black and maybe get a front and rear splitter so not much lol

Mot is due in september but should be fine. The book is stamped at 89K to say timing belt done would they have done water pump as well do you think?

You'll have to come along to a meet with me.

Only money I have spent on it so far is T-cut clay kit, a boot liner and a swapped the head unit over from the merc. Will def have to get a lil sub in there music sounds lame without a crisp bass line

The clay and wax really made a difference. The spoiler was pink and you can see the difference on the close of the wing. The wing has been waxed the door not yet

If the garage was any good they'll have done water pump at the same time as it has to be done when the belts off, tensioner should have been replaced too. Should be marked on any old receipts.

I found a load of Meguiars cleaning stuff at my Mums and a spare standard divertor valve and thermostat, I'll box them up and give them to you next weekend.

The space where the CD changer goes is just about big enough for a small sub and amp if you build a little enclosure out of MDF. I only changed the front components in mine as didn't want a load of extra weight in the boot.
