Another (unique-ish) key fob problem

Featured Replies

Good afternoon forum,

First time poster, log time reader. Having used these forums a lot over my 6 year fabia owner ship (2004 1.9) I finally need to start a new post as I cannot find an answer...

Having returned from holiday a few days ago, I now find my key fob does not work. Given the vehicle was sat in the (ahem) capable hands of 'meet and greet' parking services I simply grabbed my key at 10am from a young cap and drove off...not thinking to check for key issues!

I have two keys for my Fabia, I noticed some time go that the key wouldn't fit into the barrel (stops about half way and won't turn). Foolishly I didn't't address this at the time! This could be due to an attempted breaking or an ignition barrel change by a previous owner?

The system works fine from inside(the lock/unlock buttons on drivers side near window switches) so I can rule out a motor malfunction.

Both keys light up and I replaced their batteries, they also both work in the ignition so can rule out a key error.

I have tried to synch the keys using methods from a previous post (holding down buttons for 1min or so). This failed.

I've read through this guide http://www.programyourkeys.com/Program_Car_Keys_-_Skoda.html but obviously I can't do this because the damn key wont go in the lock!

The boot and other doors are keyless so I can't even switch barrels to resolve the issues in the short term!

I'm guessing this is going to result in a pricey dealer visit so throw the gauntlet down to anyone who can help!

Many thanks for reading
