What is the going rate for a service?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I have to get the Octavia serviced before we go on holiday in two weeks time, and I would like to know what is a good price for the annual service - oil change, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter and a general once over check.

I have got a couple of quotes and they are around the £185 mark.

Cheers,

Andy

Sounds about right for a main dealer.

Since your car is out of warranty you might want to look around for a local VAG specialist independent to save some pennies.

I used a local VAG specialist for my Octavia vRS service and he used all genuine parts from TPS (including oil as he keeps Quantum in drums!) and I was charged £100 all in - and that included him giving the car a good look over as I was taking it on track the following week and its MOT was imminent...

Can't see a diesel being anymore expensive to service that the 2.0T FSI....

I got quoted about £180 too when I last enquired. However if you buy a service plan it works out a good chunk cheaper... worth asking about if you intend to keep the car long term.

These were "indies" not main dealer.

Bloody hell, must have expensive independents round your way then!

What's the best way to find independent specialists? I'm looking for some in North-West London. North London and West London might even be good for me. Is there is a list i can refer to?

Google.

That's how I found the guy I used.

Search for the specialist then search for reviews. If you're lucky you'll find a bunch saying they're good.

Audi or VW specialists will be able to service your Skoda.

Just a quick update.

Our local council MOT centre which I use, also now offers servicing and repairs (but you have to ask them). They will do an oil/filter service and give the car a once over, checking fluid levels, brake condition for £85 - £100. They will also make an adjustment in my favour as I am supplying the oil (Shell Helix Ultra Extra - £39.94 with discount from Eurocarparts).

I shall hopefully post another update when it is all done on Monday.

Righto, here is the update.

Got the car back from the service, and they had topped up the coolant levels, lubed the door hinges, and used the oil which I had supplied, but provided an oil and air filter.

They had also located and fixed the nasty, metallic sound which had been a mystery for the last few months loose Cat bracket screw.

Total cost - £96 - very happy.

I will check the oil level tomorrow.
