Hi all, last week my remote key fob gave up. I assumed it to be the battery as there was no red light when pushing any buttons. I changed the battery and it began to work again! However the battery was dead after just two days. Changed it again, this time it lasted a week! Still anyone had a similar issue?! Seems odd for it to use the battery so quickly.

I had wondered about swapping the key for a slightly better revision (it's presently the standard key! See image). Anyone bought and setup up their own flip key for example?! If not any suggestions on preventing my batteries from disappearing

Buy a used flip key, get the blade cut (guy in eBay will do it from a photo), hot knife/nail varnish remover to cut immo coil out and glue into new fob, follow manual to code new remote fob to existing car.

That's what I did to convert my old Octavia fob to work on the Leon.

That's great that's what I had in mind. How fragile are the immobiliser coils? Is it risky at all? Definitely would prefer a flip key too! Oo also do pritty much all vag keys work with all vag cars? Little worried I'll get a newer revision that won't work or something!

Well so far my Octavia II fob has been synced up to an old A4 and a MK2 Leon without issue, the frequency for the remotes was different on the Audi fob from memory but it still worked.

This was the result of a hot Stanley knife (use a blow torch/gas burner to heat it and make sure you wear gloves and it isn't plastic body version) and a little persuasion. The section I cut out was then left in a cup of nail varnish remover for a few minutes, after that it came out without issue. I used a small blob of glue to secure it in the new fob. Coding is as per the manual, I confess I've not checked the Fabia manual but it's in the Audi/Golf/Leon/Octavia versions and online.

Oh and the image you posted is enough to get a key cut from so you may want to consider removing it, immo defeat kits are cheap as chips now :(

I've ordered all the its to put a new key together now. Might bob a guide together as I do it! This is if people think it would be useful.

I considered doing the same and even photographed the process (hence the photo above) but I figured it wasn't going to be much use to anyone as most of the VAG range comes with flip keys as standard now.

Hum yeah fair point! Amazed the effort you had to go to for the transponder! Most people seem to have got away with just a bit of gentle persuasion.

The problem with gentle persuasion is you can easily break the glass, i've seen people do it. For the sake of two minutes work and 3 minutes of waiting as I was doing this 47 miles away from my spare key it was the easy option.
