Talk to me about the Skoda Fabia VRS Estate

Featured Replies

Hello All,

I currently have a Fabia VRS MK1 and am looking to upgrade to something with a bit more space. I'm looking at the Fabia VRS estates and wondering if there's anything particular I should know before taking the plunge.

Your advise greately appreciated.

James

Welcome to the forum.

Great cars,

wonderful DSG gearboxes, nippy, can be good for 45 mpg if needed.

Petrol not diesel,

but maybe a Diesel Fabia Estate with a re-map would suit, and the better economy is needed.

'Brimma' has one that looks as good if not better than a vRS Estate.

There is word on there being Monte Carlo Estates.

I took the plunge and went from a MK 1 to a MK2 estate and apart from the slight increase in running costs I haven't looked back.

The performance is slightly better but the TSI delivers its power in a different way. Test drive one. You will either love it or hate it.

The Estate in my opinion looks better than the hatch in my opinion. Apparently it's slightly lighter too.

The TSI can use some oil, mine does but it doesn't bother me as its within the limit Skoda put in the owners manual. Most cars are peaches but according to this forum there are some lemons knocking about.

All in all for the price for the practicality and performance you can't go wrong!

The best version of the mk2 Fabia VRS in my opinion, because it does it all and the estate looks better than the hatch.

But it's a different driving experience from the mk1, so make sure it suits your requirements before you take the plunge.

Although I am not personally a fan of the driving experience they are quick, smooth, easy to drive etc... overall very capable. A lot of people on here love them.

Do a search on the forum for the age of car you are considering.

Such as some of the earlier ones have had a few oil issues.

I enjoy mine. I do miss sometimes the interaction of a manual but DSG is consistently faster and when making progress you have more time to get lines right. Auto in traffic is nice too. Loads of room in the boot. A washing machine fits with seats up and seats down a whole road bike with both wheels on. Carries my kayak fine too. I would get a long test drive if you can as Richard says it's not for everyone.

I have one. It's awsome.

Thanks for the advice, I think the first port of call is a test drive at my local dealership.........

Best car you can buy for the money, in terms of performance and practicality.

Ive had mine for a year and I really don't know what I could buy that is better.

Give it a go - loving mine. Drop the seats and it can carry a stupid amount of kit if needed.

I'm not so sure that you really need the extra 1mph top speed of the Estate over the hatch but it's nice to know ;)

Sold mine on after 18 months; was a good car and for the money its impossible to buy a new car with its straight line performance and load capacity; just fell short of the mark on handling and running costs for me.

Kept ours for about 2 years but sold because were fed up with the oil issue, the lousy economy (circa 33mpg ) and the appalling ride on (granted) our country lanes. Loved the gearbox and the practicality of the huge load area. If we lived in a non-rural area with better roads the ride would probably have been acceptable but not the economy. We switched to a Fabia 105hp Scout. Good ride, high 60's fuel consumption on long runs, otherwise mid 50's on short rural hops. Nice gearbox and don't miss the performance that much. Horses for courses, shame Skoda didn't go the diesel route for the vRS.

I had the hatch for 2.5 years and 50,000 miles, (used no oil, and gave 50mpg on my daily commute, plus 144mph on the German autobahns to Czech, and 4 laps of the ring and track days) I liked it so much I bought the estate (new) which I may keep for 5 years this time.... done 1,700 miles in it so far (including a track day) and it has run perfectly, just had an issue with the dunlops which I dont like, so I've changed them.
