Does Standard Swing Radio support Bluetooth AVRCP

Featured Replies

I currently have an HTC One X which doesn't support AVRCP so no track titles etc are transmitted over Bluetooth and the Swing shows BT AUDIO. If I had a phone that did support AVRCP would the Swing be able to display the track information?

Hi. HTC One X has android right? Couldn't you just install an application that does that? I had a similar situation in my Android Samsung, but the issue was it wouldn't list my contacts. So I did some research and then I found an application that "activates" that Bluetooth service. I'm not expert by the way. I hope someone with the adequate knowledge can help you.

HTC One X runs Android 4.1.1. I believe that HTC have put their own Bluetooth Stack in which doesn't support AVRCP which allows control of the media functions (in V1.0) and access to meta data such as track names, artists etc (added in V1.3 of the specificatiojn). I think that the media app on the phone has to support sending the meta data (I use Google Play Music which I believe does), but the underlying Bluetooth STack must support the AVRCP profile to allow the data to be transmitted.

At least that is my understanding anyway.

Ah ok, I understand you now. So, the "low level" bluetooth services must have AVRCP support. However, even if the smartphone did have AVRCP, the swing radio must have it too, and that was your question I'm unable to answer, at least right now. Let's hope someone knows. Good luck!

I did have a brief play with trying to get AVRCP to work and didn't quite manage it, but it wasn't obvious to me whether it was because my stereo or phone (or both!) didn't support AVRCP. The bluetooth playback itself worked perfectly well, but I haven't bothered with it since as I much prefer using my iPod and Y cable with the MDI interface which gives me all the meta information about the tracks, ability to shuffle / select music etc.

I did buy a cheap (ish) bluetooth plug in adaptor for my iPod to try the bluetooth thing again, but I simply couldn't get it to work at all, it would pair with the car but the car never noticed the adapter was streaming music like it had done with my phone, I just gave up with it as a bad investment so I'm still none the wiser.

It'd be interesting to hear if you get this working as I'd prefer to be able to do this from a device that's in my pocket, that way I don't have to remember to unplug everything when I park up at night :giggle:

I am using Bluetooth to stream music quite successfully using A2DP. I tried connecting th ephone to the USB socket but get a message MDI NOT SUPPORTED so acn't use that (think it has something to do with the phone not appearing as a mass storage devive).

As a matter of interest I contacted Skoda through the website last week asking whether AVRCP is supported.  I got a phone call today to tell me that after checking with the factory it is not.
