Hi guys,

I have recently just bought a 06 plate, Fabia VRS in black. I have always liked to keep my cars relatively clean. But I feel the obsession coming on with this car. My only problem is I literally just have my trusty bucket, sponge, Fairy liquid outside cold tap and one shammy that is probabaly as old as I am.

I have always seen and admired people who clean there cars, polish them and have them looking amazing and it is something i plan on undertaking on the new car, the car also has a couple of scratches that i have been told will polish out.

After briefly reading over peoples bufty threads, there seems to be endless combinations of foam, clay, polishes, shammys, waffles? and more.

Being a total n00b in this world I was wondering is there any decent starter sets out there that i could pick up to get my bufty obsession started!

I started to look after my cars about 10 years ago, and since then I have spent LOTS of money on waxes, sealents, rotary polisher, endless clay bars, endless shampoo's, tyre dressings, window cleaners etc etc etc probably spent many hundreds of pounds as for Microfibre clothes, if I see any in a shop I just cant help but touch them for softness, quality etc etc the wife thinks I am nuts!!!!

However, having said all that I do get a big smile when people comment on how good it looks!

You can get a good basic set up for little money, lots of online retailers that can provide good value, pop over to Detailing World and just drool over the quality of the some of the cleans in there!

However, there is one product that I will recommend and you really need to consider regardless of what other products you buy, try using a salent on the car after you have washed, polished etc etc and I will only use one sealant and that is Gtechniq C2V3, once you have done all the work on the car, you just spritz and couple of squirts per panel, wipe it over and thats it, quick and easy compared to 'wax on, wax off' and it will give you several months of protection for your paintwork and when you run your hand over it it feels so slick, a product highly recommended by me and many others no doubt!

Use the 2 bucket method with grit guards to shampoo your car with microfibre or lambs wool mit. only use the sponge to apply tyre dressing and bin you chamoise! Use microribre towels to dry you car instread, either wooly mamouth or somethink like these. lay them flat then pull them across the car wooly side down. I use 2 kents below. 1 on the whole car then the second to finish it off

ebay is good for single items as the above retailers tend to charge P&P so are no good for the odd purchase. Halfrauds have 3 for 2 on shampoos and polishes at the mo so you could do worse than go down there. I use mostly Autoglym stuff myself, their shampoo conditioner and high dev wax, but their resin polish is good and you can put sealer over the top of that like AG exra gloss protection
