seat protectors for child seats - are they safe and what did you go for?

Featured Replies

Hi all. Hoping to stir a bit of sensible debate but also get some ideas as to what people have done/used (if at all) to protect their cars seats fron scratching/indentations when using car seats.

I have the vRS leather upholstery in my Octavia; I like it but I didnt really want it, just happened to come as standard on my Blackline.

Originally I was using the wifes Klippan Triofix (isofix with base) in it as we only had the one car at the time and all it did was cause a mild indentation in the lower part of the backrest that would have no doubt sprung back in time.

A few months later my wife insisted on having a car so bought a run around and she took the triofix and I've ended up with a Maxi Cosi Priori seat belt fixing seat. Its better in certain respects as it rattles a hell of a lot less and doesnt cause a total view blackspot over my left sholder but the side effect is that over the past few months its dented the life out of the base and cover, almost irreparably I suspect.

Now dont get me wrong its only a car, ultimately Im not that bothered about it as id have thought most of these cars will have had child seats in the back of them at some point given its a family car but if I can do something cheaply and safely to protect the seat from getting any worse Id probably do so. Also having another child in a few months so that'll be two seats in the back on my lovely leather but if the consensus is they are unsafe ill not bother and just get on with it.

Firstly then....are these seat protector things safe? Secondly what sort of things have you bought/done to protect your car if any?

......wishes id factory ordered something now with the standard/red alcantara upholstery!

Sunshine Kids Ultra Mat car seat protector. I have two. Not a mark on either car. Easily transfered. No issue with safety. Available from Amazon.

You will also want a car seat back protector or the little darlings will kick seven shades out of your seat backs! Prince Lionheart Backseat Kick Mat. Also from Amazon and far superior from others I have seen. Fits nice and tight so they can't get their feet under it.

I used a Mothercare ‘NeatSeat’ on the rear leather seats in the Superb, 2 ½ years on and there is not a mark on the leather, despite using a Recaro Start (heavy) child seat.

Also being a Superb the little blighters cannot reach the front seats with their feet :giggle:

Leather in the blackline is fantastic and worth protecting. My Mrs got a seat protector and seat back protector both from Halfords I think. Very worthwhile.
