Painting wheels. Need a little advice

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am going to re-paint my wheels. I have done it before but it has cracked and peeled. Last time I used a high build primer, water based paint and a normal 2 pack lacquer.

I was looking to go for a VHT lacquer (does anyone know where you can buy it from to use in a spray gun?) but is that all I need to help prevent the lacquer from cracking?

When I did a cheap DIY refurb on my winter wheels (the Audi a3 ones that look a bit like snowflakes!) I used a specific wheel laquer that I got from halfords. Seemed to work well and didn't flake at all. It went very hard, unlike the standard bodywork laquer that I've also used before.

I have used standard halfrauds lacquer before, just left it to dry properly for about a week and it was fine.
