I will probably buy another Yeti but...

Featured Replies

After my long documented dispute with my original supplying dealers and Skoda UK about my nightmare experience with my Panoramic roof. The car is now back at the dealers again with several new faults. They will need it for around a week and a half apparently.

The drivers airbag light came on and we noticed a scraping noise when turning the steering wheel. We then noticed none of the steering wheel controls like the horn or stereo volume were working. So the dealers took it in and diagnosed a slip ring issue. But we are also getting the timing chain replaced due to the rattle on start up caused by the chain being not at the correct tension. On top of that we are also having some corrosion issues attended to. Both front doors have some corrosion at the bottom inside corner. It's where the door skin is folded over and is welded to the door frame. The dealer took some pics and Skoda UK have agreed that this should be done under warranty.

It's great that all these faults are being attended to without the same level of grief I had from my previous dealer. But this means that all in all this has been my worst ever car for manufacturing issues. I've bought new Volkswagen's, BMW Mini's and Honda's and although not faultless they certainly didn't give me anything like the same level of grief the Yeti and Skoda have.

In saying that I still rate the car highly enough that I convinced my Mother and Father-in-law to buy one. I'm also now considering replacing ours for a new Yeti but hoping for a better experience next time. So the car is that good that I can forgive it's faults but it would be nice if our next one had less issues.

Unfortunately any car maker can build the odd lemon.

We've had five Yetis in our family now and they have all been spot on. Not one issue so far...

Hope your next one is as good as most of the others out there. :)

Had the slip ring issue on a Passat about 7 or 8 years ago.

I think that was the only fault that particular car ever had, ad like yours was sorted under warranty without any issues.

I'll second Bossfox.. Was yours a very early production one?

We're on our second Yeti and they've both been faultless.

We're almost certainly looking ahead to our third, because nothing else ticks all our boxes like the Yeti..

My car is a 2011 but if I remember rightly it was an early MY12 build. So it really shouldn't have suffered from as many issues.

I couldn't agree more about the box ticking thing. The Yeti just ticks more boxes than any other car on the market for us and we don't even really have a close second place unless you add another £10k to the budget. Even then I might still end up going for another wee snow monster.

Hope you get these issues resolved and likewise mines currently away until maybe Friday having a few warranty things either resolved or looked at further. Similarly I cannot fault the efforts and first class customer service of the dealer in Lincoln I now use, having given up with the three local establishments; even brought me a car to the house this time and collected ours.

Neither of the two Yeti's have been faultless unfortunately but our cars do get well used and occasionally asked to go beyond; like driving 980 miles in a day :giggle:

"having given up with the three local establishments"

This part is something of a niggle for myself.

I've had a few contacts now with the local dealership and, if i'm honest, they don't give me a very good sense that i'd want to buy from them.

The last time two times i've visited i'm given the impression that everything is "such a hassle".

With that in mind, even though the yeti is excellent, i'm considering something else for my next car (which is a shame).

I feel very fortunately that I not only have a cracking local dealer (Preston Motors) but the Yeti has also done some pretty hard work in it's 15 months/20 miles and coped amazingly well.

I've tested it in just about every way you can, while being vaguely sensible.

Yet I haven't even had the blink of a warning light yet.

I've actually contacted Lee at Preston Motors to ask for a quote. We arecoming down to London to visit Legoland in late September so might tie the visit to picking up a new Yeti. We are still a bit undecided at the moment given the MY14 facelift is looming. But if Lee's deal is much better than my local dealer then I would happily buy my next car from them. The dealers in the central belt of Scotland don't have a lot of competition so it really depends on how desperate they are to meet their targets as to how good a deal you get.

Talking of blinking lights... Sotch has developed an odd problem with the off-road button operation. I use the downhill brake assist a lot. I don't always have to use it; but as it is there I do. Recently the assist will work only for a few seconds and then not assist any more. The light (a little green car icon) will blink whilst it is working and then stay continuously on when it fails. Not a serious problem ~ however it is unnerving when it happens! Any known issues/cures/whatever?

hope there is no more future probs, by the way what dealer are you using?

I bought from Parks in Hamilton and the sales guys I dealt with were great and very accommodating. But when it came to after sales the service dept their couldn't diagnose the fault with my car.

I'm a fair person and I can appreciate that the fault was difficult to find but what I had a problem with was them dismissing the fault as something I would need to live with and that it was 'environmental'. I found that attitude absolutely infuriating.

So ended up getting a hold of the head of Skoda UK's email address and explained my situation and asked for his help. Within half an hour I had a manager from customer service suggesting to try a different dealer (Henry's) to see if they could do any better. They did and diagnosed the fault as a poorly factory fitted drain channel along one side of the sunroof. I then sent off a letter of complaint to Parks but they of course weren't interested. I will never use them again.

I don't know if it was Skoda UK saying to Henry's to do their very best to find the fault or if they would have found it anyway. But I do get the impression of a more professional attitude from Henry's. However when I was initially looking they wouldn't get anywhere close to the deal that Parks offered me. Maybe you get what you pay for :wonder:

It stays solid when the incline is less than 8% and downhill assist doesn't work then. That is normal.

Yes. I remember it when it was normal. Time for Skoda to have a look methinks...
