Ok, something I was chatting to a work colleague about last night is, why not a bike? Fuel prices going up etc, why not at least look at it?

I've had a look about and can do a CBT for about

A nice idea but bikes aren't actually all that cheap to run. What they will save you a lot of is time.

Just found something, I passed my test on 5th December 2000 but my licence says start date of 28th February 2001. Which would come into play regarding a CBT? I know the cutoff date is 01 February 2001.

Umm..as a bike rider myself...they're not cheap things to run...much smaller service intervals, more consumables like tyres, chains, sprockets etc.

However they are a great deal of fun, you don't get stuck in traffic, and they're a hell of alot of fun.

Go for it :)

Depends what you buy ref service intervals / running costs.

My VOR 530 SME gets an oil change after every ride, takes 10 min's and is only 1250ml of semi for the complete change.

Speed triple is every 6k for a service, but because there is no bodywork to remove only costs just over a ton.

You will save time commuting though, that much is certain :)

Do all learner moped and motorcycle riders have to complete CBT?

If you passed a car test before 1 February 2001 you do not need to complete CBT to ride a moped but you do have to take a CBT to ride a motorcycle.

However, if you passed your car test after 1 February 2001 and you wish to ride a moped or motorcycle you will need to complete CBT.

So, basically, if you wish to ride a proper bike, you'll need to pass a CBT regardless of when you passed your car driving test.

Had a twist & go Scooter, was ok easy to ride, have got a full scooter licence ie auto transmission only. Not bad as you can get 650cc scooters, go very well 110+.the only problem i had was it took longer to get all the proctive gear on for my short journey of 2 miles but on some duel carridgeway, better safe etc then it took to ride to work  That said in the winter it was a bit cold  and fun in the snow  would recommend it but keep the car for winter.

Dont get a twist and go , there **** , little wheels = dodgy handling .

If you only want a cheap bike for work etc get an old shed for

My mate at work has got a Ducati 998 or something.

looks the nuts and sounds awesome. He's had 150 out of it before he ran out of road and it accelerates so fast!

Bit expensive though!
