Thinking of getting a Monte Carlo 1.6 tdi

Featured Replies

Hi all I sold my mk1 fabia vrs last year to help pay for a new garage.

My girl friend has a lupo gti and we are thinking of getting a new Monte Carlo 1.6 tdi to replace the lupo

Just looking for some advice on them how you lot get on with them? Can you remap, lower etc

And what options are worth getting etc

Thanks Richie

Very pleased with Monte 105 Tdi, but the only mod I've done is to fit LED DRLs and I don't know why as I'll never see 'em! Hopefully they'll be more visible than the standard bulbs to the less observant oncoming traffic.

Once I've done about 5k miles I'll consider my options with a remap and for day to day use I'm more than happy with the standard suspension setup. The seats are very comfortable and the leather wheel, handbrake and gear lever gaiter are really sumptuous.

It's too early to give any meaningful fuel consumption figures as I've only done 750 miles yet, but the low down grunt is impressive even with a tight engine.

My car came ready fitted with options from a cancelled order, but I would definitely go for a full sized spare wheel and rear electric windows. HTH.

As above I'm also very happy with my Monte :) I didn't spec any options on mine as it was on they had in the docks but I don't miss much coming from a MK2 vRS. There's plenty torque and fuel consumption is rather good! After 4k miles I've not had any less than 50mpg per tank :)

I've lowered mine 40mm with the H&R spring and Bilstein B8 dampers. The ride is still comfy not crashy but handle lovely :)

Would of liked to have the maxidot display as you get a proper fuel gauge. Other than that I wouldnt want anything else.

Hope this helps! :)

I've had mine 6 months and I love it apart from a few niggles, covered just over 5500 miles now.

Economy wise mine will happily do 45-48 around town, i'm quite heavy with the right foot so could get better I reckon. Out of town this rises by a fair bit with low 60s seen most times. A trip to Essex being sensible on cruise control saw a combined mpg of 92, but it was boring!! (I like being in full control of car not feeling like a passenger)

Comfortable, suprisingly nippy for a small engined car. Handles reasonably well but can understeer quite badly when pushed. This is coming from a few RWD cars so can't say if that's a shortfall with the car.

It is far too high as standard so looking at some H&R springs for mine shortly, there are also coilovers available as the car is based on the SE model.

Maxidot is a must, as it improves the look of the dash. I also got mine with heated seats, cruise, underseat storage and armrest.

Thank you for the comments. Can someone clarify the difference of having maxidot to not having it? I haven't heard of maxidot before. So everyone thinks they are money well spent then?

Thinking of swapping my fabia vrs in for Monte Carlo estate, any body have thoughts on what engine to het1.2 or1.6, thinking of keeping long term, using for general town motoring and longer runs at weekends?

I'm in the process of doing exactly the same. Went for the 1.6 because it has the same torque as the VRS, so not too much of a shock to the system.

The 1.2 is a very capable engine and might be best if you do short journeys or low mileage (say less than 10K?), but the 1.6 is a much more 'comfortable' engine because of the torque, and is capable of higher MPG on a long run.

been for a test drive today an i am sold. just got to talk the misses in to it now lol

Get the maxidot - the standard display looks horrible. You can also change a few settings for the car too.

Had the Fabia maxidot in the previous Elegance spec and compared to the system in our Yeti I thought it was quite poor and not particularly user friendly without the steering controls, so didn't bother with the Monte and to be honest I prefer the subtle green lighting to the sharp non-adjustable white.

Oh ours only does 9 to 10k a year, so went with the baby TSI 86 but that hasn't stopped us taking her into Europe as far down as the Alps. Added cruise to our very short options list and this is a must for longer relaxed trips.
