Sudden coolant loss

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have a 2005 1.4 tdi, which all of a sudden has lost its coolant. I don't think its overheated, certainly not judging by the guage, today when my wife was driving it the coolant light came on. On inspection it seems to be wet down the back of the engine, I've had it up on ramps and had a look, I can't be sure as there is water everywhere, but the heater pipes look quite wet.

I topped it up earlier and it seems to be dripping heavily from the back of the engine.

There isn't any mayo under the oil filler or in the coolant and other wise it runs fine. Is there a common problem that might explain this sudden leak?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

Carl

heater pipe may be damaged where it goes through the bulk head ?

Bulk head pipes, a common fault.

Thanks guys,

Mogwye, do you know how difficult they are to repair, it looks like a bit of a nightmare for access?

Thanks

Turns out the two metal pipes which go down to the heater have come away from their mounting, it looks like the stud on the bracket has snapped. Anyway this has allowed one of the rubber pipes which disappears down the back of the engine (its covered in foil), to rub on the air intake pipe until it has worn through it. Looks like it should be an easy fix provided I can reach down the back of the engine.
