Woke up this morning to find this...

The handle had been hard to open for a while so im guessing the end cap gave up the ghost and fell out, the internal casing of the handle was also loose, i popped down to skoda and showed them this picture.

It was then that i had to be picked up off the floor... they told me that i need an all new handle and they cant see whats broken, they said it will need spraying.

I then asked how they intend to fit it, he said "drill out the door carrier, fit new handle and re fit and seal door carrier", so how much do you recon to replace a door handle??

Stuff that do it yourself for a 1/10th of the price and with the change buy yourself a well earned pint

Thats exactly what im thinking, don't know where to start but for £250 im sure i can learn!

Door carrier does not need to be removed to change the handle!

Isn't it something to do with a bolt you undo through a small hole in the inside edge of the door - a torx 20 if I remember right?

Yep, pull the handle out while you undo it

Apparently its the backing to the handle that's broken, the little end cap would not fix to anything so i presume they are correct in thinking the backing plate is broken?

Easy fix to be honest, get a mate to help as it can be a little tricky? :think:

Does not sound to easy if i have to take the carrier off, I am going to take a closer look over the weekend. As i say the little end cover was loose for ages and the backing plate appears to move around so im guessing its broken

No wonder back street garages are poping up every where 250 omg am glad am a machnaic at them prices

Easy peasy job! As Jason says, torx bolt inside the door to remove the handle

there is a set of blue handles on ebay atm just search octavia door handle blue

I cant get to the backing of the handle through the front though can i?

I have had a look at the door, im missing the torx screw behind the gromit... however i only have one gromit on each door?
