ease of fitting a turbo on your drive?

Featured Replies

how easy is this to do without having a ramp? is it a fiddly job or totally doable on your drive? just thinking of ways of cutting labour costs.

Easy mate only thing underneath u need to get at is the 3 bolts on the downpipe

And be very careful of dirt n foreign bodies getting into the turbo....

Yeah we've done 2 now

took about 3 hours max second time around

Take off the boost pipes, EGR and inlet manifold and the turbo unbolts and comes out from behind the block, just be careful not to bend the long oil return pipe too much otherwise you'll need to add one to the shopping list.

if your turbo has gone bang remember to clean out the pipework and inter cooler too

If your turbo has gone bang you need to replace the oil feed pipe. Oil starvation due to a blocked/restricted feed pipe is a common cause of turbo failure. The warranty for the new turbo will almost certainly make it a condition.

Hmm, guess I'm the only one that's had abit trouble fitting them and wouldn't recommend fitting it on your driveway without a ramp!

Good luck anyway.

its that point when you snap a stud in the block for the exhaust manifold that you think ffs why am i bothering

I didn't say I'd recommend it; just that it was doable! ;)

100% replace the oil feed pipe. Also the oil and filter is adviseable, if you have bought a recon turbo it is insisted upon to keep the turbo warranty. Also prime the oil feed pipe with oil before you start it up.

Oil return pipe and lower mounting bracket too :)

I find its easier getting on the intake and outlet pipes on the turbo from underneath.
